The new telephone answering system was then discussed. It was agreed that Jim Steen would see if the volume of the ring could be improved as it was difficult to hear the ring if the club was full,or if the adjoining door was closed. It was also agreed to ask Pauline Burn to put a message on the machine asking callers not to leave a message on the machine but to phone one of the numbers given if there is no reply at the club e.g. the secretary. It was also felt that the days and the times that the club meets could be given.
House Ann Gray began by thanking Michael Anderson for the efficient way that he carried out his duties, if any item was requested for the kitchen etc. it was there the next time it was needed. Ann brought to the committee's notice that the dehumidifier needed emptying regularly. G. Wylie is attending to the new door at the front to replace the warped one and also to the shelf that has collapsed. Two coats of paint will be required for the new door. Various queries were then addressed: Rosie to pursue the question of updating the Presidents board. Committee members were reminded of the need to empty the dishwasher,if arriving early, to prevent dirty cups being placed beside clean ones. The Cleaner complained that the hoover was not picking up. Jim Steen to investigate. A member had suggested that we might like to buy some new up to date books for the library.Various members agreed to look and see if they had any as traditionally these books were donated.
Tournaments It was reported that the handicap system was now in place. Ken suggested that the weekly results should be displayed in the club within the week as not everyone had access to the web. He also felt that the summaries of the various competitions should be displayed regularly so that members could see who was leading at any one time. These comments were endorsed by the Press secretary Roy Shearn. It was agreed to ask Mathew to arrange this. At this point the President asked that a letter of appreciation be sent to Beth and Eileen Cowan, who donated the "Cissie Hanley Salver" in memory of their mother.
Press Roy requested news of any club events as he wanted to to make his newspaper reports more interesting. Various suggestions were made which Roy was happy to investigate.

Social Sheila Gray and Ann Ridley reported that the catering for the Carlisle match had gone very well. They reported that some members were unhappy that the match should be held on a Friday night.
