| Matters Arising | Anne Ridley asked if we were any further forward with regard to having curtains. Ann Gray gave costings and it was agreed to discuss this later in the meeting. |
| Correspondence | A letter was received from the President of the Southern District regarding the purchasing of bridge-mates. This to be discussed under SBU. |
| New Members | 1 new member was accepted into the club, Esme F. D. Hill. |
| Treasurer | David Gardner reported on several items: Cleaning--- We now have a new cleaning contract. We are now paying £173.27 per month. Previously we paid £178 a month and although their rates have increased, because we now have our own vacuum cleaner, the cost is less. Classes------The classes are well attended and have brought in a total of £800. Expenses have still to be taken off that . It was agreed that the classes should be continued after the New Year. Balances----- HBOS------ £4583.92 Standard Life Bank-------- £8734.64 Cash Flow Projections------David said that he had not tried to do this as he had not the experience to provide this information, his main objective was to keep a check on the bank balance and to keep the committee informed if and when it was necessary to transfer money from Standard Life. Awards For All-------It was much appreciated by all that the club had, in fact, been granted an award for the full cost of the chairs. David said that although the award was not yet paid into the bank it was expected this week. It was agreed that the chairs should now be ordered for delivery in the New Year. Thanks were due to Anne Ridley for advising the committee about the possibility of getting a grant in the first place and thanks also to Jim Steen, David Gardner and their sub committee for the follow up work which resulted in the granting of the award. The secretary has also to write to Neil McIntosh to thank him for being our referee. |
| House | Ann Gray reported that the heater in the ladies toilet was broken and that it would cost £130+ vat+ fitting to replace it. This was approved. Cleaning Carpets------- Ann suggested that the carpets be steam- cleaned before the chairs came at a cost of £180 + vat. After much discussion this was not approved. Wall Painting-------- It was agreed to give the walls a fresh coat of emulsion. It was again mentioned that several members were complaining about cold spots in the playing room despite the heating. It was agreed to ask George Wylie to look into this and after his report we could again look at the possibility of having curtains and possibly heaters too. |
| SBU | The question of the letter received from Sheena White, President of the Southern District, was now discussed: The Southern District committee were considering buying Bridge-Mates for their matches and asked Loreburn club if they would consider paying half the cost. George Burn had researched this matter and the advice he received was that we would need a non- playing director to operate this successfully and that for a club our size it would be unviable. He had costed bridge-mates + computer at £3000. He suggested that all we needed was a computer connected to broadband at approx. £15 a month and the director could then feed in the results immediately after the match and those people who had left their e-mail addresses would have the result by the time they got home. It was decided not to take up the Southern Districts offer and Sham was asked to relay the discussion to the December meeting. |
| Christmas Party | Anne Ridley suggested that the club pay for the food and drink for the Christmas Party rather than ask individual members to donate it. This was agreed and it was decided to only ask members for raffle prizes. Further arrangements were discussed and finalised. |
| A.O.C.B. | It was agreed to put a list up in the club offering the present club chairs for £5 each. |
